On the M38CDN we have here, there seems to be evidence that there are
provisions (holes in the body in a "square" pattern) for the dataplate that
you mention (which, on Civilian models is the Willys-Overland Patent numbers
plate). These holes are not used then?

Yes, they have WILLYS (block letters) stamped on the center of tailgate.
