Exactly so, some UK cars were so fitted too, assuming the average warning light
is 1W or so then 500 - 1K ohm should do.

The standard UK fighting vehicle 24V alternator "Generator No.10 Mk.9" and its
associated external control unit "Panel, generator No.9 Mk.3" are configured
quite differently to the normal automotive system but still use the warning lamp
for initial excitation without, surprisingly, any "safety" lamp bypass
arrangement.
