Hello NORM:

I doubt that you will find a wiring diagram unless the
shelter is designated as part of a specific package,
such as: AN/GRC-142 (I think that is the RATT-rig
with the AN/GRC106 et al?)

The shelter hass have their own numbering, like S318,
S250, etc, and I would imagine that the wiring may be unique to
what goes into the shelter. This is why you may
want to look for the equipment designator of
the entire package..

BEWARE!!--> The shelter on the back of my M37
is the S144 that was set up as for the AN/MLQ-24(mod).
The AC power wiring, as originally installed
at Tobyhanna, was UNSAFE !! ..

The reason it was unsafe is that the equipment
safety ground (GRN) AND the Neutral-wiring (WHITE)
were both tied together in the shelter and both
tied to the shelter itself..

To MY knowledge, EQUIPMENT Ground (GRN) and NEUTRAL
should ONLY be tied together at the power SOURCE,
such as is the case in residential wiring where
power company's meter panel has the Neutral (WHITE),
Equipment Ground (GREEN), both tied together and
to an earth ground from the meter panel ..

Of course vehicle shelters are different, but I think
that the same rules should apply and only tie neutral
and green leads together at the power source, NOT
in the equipment..

I completely re-wired my S144 so that Neutral and HOT
wires were both above ground and went to seperate pins
on the Crouse-heinz power connector, They then each
ran in a jacketed power cable all the way to the generator
and GRN and WHITE were tied together ONLY at the generator.

When using the seperate power cord to plug the shelter into
shore power, Neutral, HOT, and GRN are seperate and
went to the proper pins on a standard, 3-wire outdoor 15-amp
hubble, weather-resistant plug

The way the ARMY originally wired my particular shelter,
if the hot and neutral leads were ever reversed at the power source,
(read that, as generator), the vehicle and shelter would be hot
with respect to earth-ground and insulated from ground with the
M37's 900-16 tires.. BAD news if you grab the door handle.
The vehicle would especially be hot to ground when the ground
stake is used at the generator and NOT at the shelter..

I prefer NOT relying on only the ground-stake at the generator
and shelter to prevent this from happening.. it is much
better to run neutral and safety ground wires properly!! ..

Trish
