Have never lived in CA, only visited there once (and with the SF traffic
would have sure liked to have one of my deuces with me!!), but I think if I
were I'd be more interested in checking out the penalty for failure to comply
than anything else.....

Recently had a fellow hit on of my deuces on the highway.....Tennessee
Highway Patrol investigated....First I had to convince them the truck wasn't
military (I had the bill of sale in my pocket, where I've carried it for two
years). Trooper asked me what the truck weighed (8 or 9 tons)...don't know
if that was investigation or curiosity. Asked if I had insurance and through
who. Asked why didn't have tags or registration (just put it off). Gave me
ticket for no tags and said "Go buy your tags and show up at court and this
will be dismissed, or pay the ticket (about 100.00 bucks)." Went and bought
permanent antique tags 140 some dollars tags and registration, and went to
court and was dismissed. NO discussion with anyone about the size of
vehicle, or my license type when buying tags.

My .02,
David Doyle
