>Recently found a strange MV at work in Tn. log woods. 6x6, 10
ton(approx),articulating frame,front of truck(cab,engine,and front
wheels)can be unhooked from rear(tandem axle. When the tractor is unhooked
from rear, a set of dolly wheels(approx. 14in.) are lowered to support the
weight of the tractor until it can be hooked to another trailer. Trailer was
orginally fitted with a tank and spray euip. Truck can equipped with "sand
type" tires, not NDT GI tread. Owner removed tank and asso. equip. and added
a fifth wheel to pull loaded log trailers, from woods to hard road. Owner
had to order trans. parts from TRW who told him there were only 2 built.
Data plate on dash says:
> USAMERDC Model LD 8145 Date shipped Aug 1972 Manf. by Barnes and
Reinecke Inc. Chicago,Ill
>Shipping data plate says:
> Liquid Distributor, Dust Control length 403in. width 107in.
>Hood says: U S Army UA003F
>Forgot to mention, V-6 Detroit Diesel, all tac.lighting(blackouts,etc.)
>Does anyone know anything about this type of truck? How many were built?
Where are the others? Where were they used? What does USAMERDC stand for? I
been around GI trucks all my life, but never saw one like this. Thanks to
you all.
