List, although this is not specifcally a vehicle question maybe someone
can help
this gentleman. I am the President of the Southern California MVCC and
MVPA dumps some unusual questions on me but this is one of the toppers.

Thanks,

Subject: Military packing crates

I'm looking for information on the methods used to ship military
vehicles back from Europe (or elsewhere) after WW2.

My house, in Glendale, CA, was built in 1947. The framing appears to
have been cut from Military packing crates, with 6" painted black &
white diagonal stripes and the words "FLIGHT AREA. . . . " followed by
numbers, on many of the members. Many of the framing members are 20 ft
or longer, and were cut from lumber over 2" thick.

If you have any information on packing crates used to hold U.S. military
vehicles or equipment in WW2, I'd be very interested to hear from you.
