very easy and very messy to do. first make SURE you have new old stock
genuine boots. there are several companies making repros and they are
absolute trash. i have had them last as long as 50 miles on a good
day....... take the new boot and pull on it and look for thin spots and
or tearing. if you can damage it by rough handling ( by hand ) it won't
last. remove the shield plate, two bolts top and two bottom. then there
is a wire with a screw to tighten it. loosen this completely apart. the
fastest way is to just cut the old boot off and try to take away as much
grease as will come with it. use some rags to wipe away the rest of the
grease. the cleaner you get it now the easier it will be to put the new
boot on. assuming you have the boots with zipper, zipper it up around
the knuckle. one will go with the zipper front and the other rearward.
now just work them over the groove and reinstall the wire clamp. check
it very carefully to see that it is seated. to grease the knuckle remove
the grease port plug on front and rear and install a fitting in the
front hole and pump in the appropriate grease. i don't remember what is
called for but i think i just used chassis lube in mine.
