Actually, you were burning the wrong fuel........ What
you had is a M-1941 solid fuel heater (FSN 4520-257-4877) with the M-1941
liquid fuel accessory kit (FSN 4520-927-4214) installed. The heater was
designed to burn wood/coal and the kit is designed to burn GASOLINE It
can be used with diesel or kerosene although the BTU output is much
less. The device that looks like a "carburetor" is the fuel flow valve
unit which regulates the flow of fuel into the combustion chamber.
The gasoline runs through a hose from a Jerry can mounted upside
down on a tripod, located outside the tent, into the valve and then it
simply runs into the burner unit. To light the unit, you drop a match or
lit piece of paper into the burner and turn the flow valve on to "9". The
gasoline will then simply start to burn and there is no "whoosh" or
explosion as the gasoline does have a air/fuel mix. The heat output of
these units is amazing and I have used my heater in freezing weather with
the valve set on "2" and we were too hot inside the tent (GP small)!

Please note that these heaters are completely safe to use with
gasoline although it is amazing how many people that I've sold these to
just will not use it as they are so afraid the thing will blow up. (sissies!)

Just come over and bring money. I still have one or two of these
buried in my storage. I have the TM on this heater (also includes the
M-1950 Yukon heater and the Immersion heater) for sale if anyone needs it.
