There was case, about 10 years ago in London, where a guy was wheelclamped
for "illegal" parking. The fines are/were horrendous for release. He was.
however a self-employed welder. Out of his van came the bottles and
gas-axe and moments later he was free, with a crowd cheering the demise of
the hated clamp.
Unfortunately, the Law had been refined in the face of previous such
"jailbreaks" and physically cutting the clamp was already illegal. He knew
this and welded it back together. He cooked his own goose, however, when,
amid much cheering from the now considerable crowd, he proceeded to weld
the clamp to a nearby lamppost.
They did him for defacing council property.
