Pete........... there are two possibilities...........

1. Likely.... you have a worn out "U"-joint on one of the rear driveshafts.
You need to lift one wheel and twist it forcefully back and forward while
someone else inspects the joints on each shaft in turn. You need to look real
close because if there is play, it only looks slight......... but it
translates into a huge "clunk" when on the road...........

2. Most likely....the yoke at either side of the diff is loose. If you have
installed a new diff, (and you say you did) then I reckon you haven't torqued
up the yoke bolts correctly and they have eventually worked loose.

3. Possible, but least likely...... that new diff was built by Canadian
Acme.... a faulty design which was eventually removed from the inventory.
