Almost all of the ESSEX-class AIRCRAFT-CARRYING FLOATING MILITARY VEHICLES
served in WW II; the MIDWAYs were initially laid down in 1943, launched in
1944 and commissioned in Oct 1945 just one month after VJ Day making them WW
II carriers. The last CORAL SEA was not commissioned until 1947 having been
laid down in 1944 and launched 1945. They are considered WW II carriers
even though they did not arrive on the scene in time enought to fight.

The Essex's were WW2 carriers even though some were launched after
hostilities ended. Some were taken for a joy ride and then mothballed.

The Midway class were post ww2 as I recall
