I received a letter from Alabama Senator Richard Shelby today. He is on the
'Committee on Appropriations'.
I had sent him an email expressing my concerns about the 4205 demill issues
from the viewpoints as a captain of a volunteer fire department, member of a
rescue squad, a professional maintenance mechanic and military vehicle
hobbyist.

His reply is as follows:
(start quote)
"Dear Mr. Doherty:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding military surplus
equipment. I share your interest in this matter.

I am well aware of the important role that military surplus equipment
plays in many communities throughout Alabama. I have consistently supported
efforts to obtain as much of this equipment as possible, especially for
local fire departments and rescue squads. Rest assured, I will not support
any measures that deprive Alabama communities of this important resource.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to let me
know if I can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,
Richard Shelby"
(end quote)

Again, I emphasize that we must address this issue on terms that they can
relate to, in addition to our own viewpoint as collectors. If losing
emergency services in communities is a big red flag to congress, wave it
hard and high. We'll get the same results, they will pay attention.

Thought you would all like to know that there is some results coming in.

John Doherty
