Dave, as a long shot, check the connection of the GROUND wire from the
battery to the frame. Ran into a similar situation once and scratched my
head for about a week. Finally discovered that the "wiggling" of the wires
caused the ground wire to not make good contact. The bolt was loose in the
first place, just happened to make a worse connection than I had to begine
with.
