Eugene,
You owe me a beer, and an apology.

From the Army Corps of Engineers
history of Raritan Arsenal, Edison, NJ:

"4. SITE HISTORY: The Arsenal was established in 1917 and originally
was a storage point for shipments overseas. Shortly after World War I,
it became a permanent ordnance depot because of its strategic
location. At the time, depot operations consisted mainly of ammunition
storage, VEHICLE STORAGE and processing of other items. (my caps)

Fact sheet for former Raritan Arsenal, 25 June 1996
http://www.hnd.usace.army.mil/oew/factshts/factshts/raritan.html

The report is mainly about environmental issues, we've been working
with them on it for years. But they did do a fairly good historical
workup on the arsenal. A lot if it with the aerial and site photos in
my files.

The guys at the Army Corps don't seem to think I'm "from another
planet".

BTW - I explained why I sent you the pic of the M151's, I just
happened to have it in the scanner at the time. Sorry I didn't have
one with "Welcome to Raritan Arsenal" in the pic, but I expect they
didn't sell many post cards.

I also found some interesting pics of DUKW's being "road tested" in
the Raritan River, dated 1943. Must have been right after they were
introduced. They aren't jeeps, but they are definitely vehicles.

When I get to the dead storage files, I'll look for pics of MB/GPW's
at the arsenal, but don't expect me to drop everything to do it. Some
of us have work to do.
