Hmmmm.... Without the motivation for profit, virtually
none of this stuff would have been recovered. Without
an interest in preservation, these items would be
virtually worthless. Furthermore, how many Bren
Carriers and Kettenkrads (as examples) would be left
if it wasn't for the commercial value (i.e. PROFIT
MOTIVE) that they provided to their buyers after the
war.

I submit to you, that without the profit motive,
virtually none of this stuff would be around anymore.
But then again, melting down all that surplus
equipment would have been for a profit motive too....
Uh oh! I've run rings around my own logic!

Certainly respect should be paid to the dead. If I was
recovering something I certainly would, and I would
trust virtually all others that would be involved in
like endeavors to do the same. Recovery of wrecked
aircraft has gone on by individuals in the UK for many
years. Those individuals find these wrecks and pay to
excavate them allowing the crew's remains to be
returned to their families. This is much more than the
government ever accomplished!
