Hi Joe & List,
Blimps were definitely used on the west coast. I used to see 'em in the
fifties. Moffet Field Naval Air Station (~40 miles south of S.F.) wasn't
far from us, where they were based. The hangar is so big that clouds would
form inside, and it would actually rain in there! Strange but true. It's
still there, and can be seen for _miles_. (Adjoins the huge Lockheed site).
Also, when the base was being discussed for approval, the neighboring town
(Sunnyvale) annexed the area in question from the town of Mountain View.
The thought was, with a name like Mountain View, an air base would never
"fly" through Congress. Ah, the way government works!
