Ok, I've finally gotten the straight poop from somebody who knows. The local
arrangements are being handled by Bill Norris in Mobile at (334) 473-6242.

The LST is expected to arrive Wednesday morning January 10th, 2001 at
approximately 10:30 AM. It will be coming into the Alabama State Docks on
the water front at the end of Govenors Street in Mobile. This will be at
Pier #2 at the upper end of the dock. They will be having high school bands,
and dignataries, as well as local TV coverage. This is about 1/2 mile from
the Civic Center and the River Plaza Hotel in downtown Mobile.

If you're coming in from the north, turn onto Interstate 165 and go to the
old GM and Railroad Terminal and turn left on Govenors. This will take you
to the State Docks. There will be signs and people directing you from there.

Mr. Norris has asked that all who will be in the welcoming group be in place
by 10:00 AM. The ship is expected in at 10:30 and the official welcome will
be at 11:00 (allowing time for the ship to tie up and lower their gangplank).

The Dixie Division Military Vehicles Club of the MVPA plans to have at least
4 vehicles there. Any and all who are in the area are invited to join us.
Please let me know if you're coming so we can tell the organizers how many
to expect.
