Hi Joe
spider gears are the four pinion gears which fit on a ONE piece cross . the
side gears have shoulders on them which fit in the case and axle shafts fit
in these .
the spider cross can not come out so the spiders can not go anywhere, side
gears are set in the case and are in constant contact with the spiders now
since the spiders can not go anywhere how can the side gears go anywhere?
get out your TM9-2320-XXX-34P and study the picture
besides if the spiders failed (with the axle shaft in) it makes no difference
the axle shaft does NOT hold anything "in" the side gears support the axle
shafts .
axle shafts only job is so supply twisting action "torque" to the hubs
