Get the "All-American Wonder" by Ray Cowdery Vol I and II. Blue drab
lusterless enamel 2" high on both sides of the hood (its not passenger
car it is a "1/4T truck" per army regs therefore u don't need numbers on
the rear panel like shown in some
publications). Numbers for the recon vehicles start with "20" and are 7
digit. I used the 20 infront of my serial number. There are some members
that can give you the probable range depending on your serial number but
no one knows for sure so you might as well make is a useful number and
use ur serial number.

The stenciling always had some drips or over spray or bleeding so vinal
numbers are too perfect and look phoney. They were done quick n dirty
as the production had to get out alot in a hurry. Also the numbers were
not always sequential as sometimes a unit was taken aside for testing or
inspection and not given a hood number right -a-way and so it's specific
hood number might be off by a month or 2 of production time. Also
sometimes when the shop was working on severl jeeps the hoods got
switched and so the hood numbers didn't always match. K
