Kevin,
            When I got my first 4 cycl. mule I wondered the same thing, and
I still don't know. When the Army upgraded the mules in the 70's, all the 4
cycl. engine had been replaced by the 2 cycl. (2AO42). I hope someone can
tell us what the hole is for. It's in the right place for a starter (like on
the 2AO42), but no teeth on the flywheel.
