Re: [MV] Restoring a C-47 was Blame the Irish

Chris, the place to look for a gooney bird in good shape is Venezuela
and the rest of Latin America, especially in high-and-dry places. Many
of these proud warbirds are still around, languishing in front of
abandoned warehouses, some missing part preventing them from take-off,
the undergrowth slowly reclaiming the landing gear and fuselage....
The last time I was in Venezuela I spotted a C-47 at a small, abandoned
airport near Coro, northwest of Caracas. Other than a propeller, it
appeared to be in nearly intact shape and some of the original markings,
including what looked like invasion stripes (or similar, I don't want to
make claims I can't substantiate) could be seen under the fading red
paintjob.

Cheers!

Henry C.
