But if you remove the front drive shaft, then the sprag would engage since the
rear axle would be spinning faster than the front axle (which would appear to be
stationary since the drive shaft was removed. But so what? The sprag is torque
rated to spin not only the front axle, but apply power to the front road
wheels! I would certainly think that the sprag would be able to spin an
unloaded drive flange after the drive shaft is removed without self destructing.

Am I correct about this? I haven't heard of anyone tearing up a transfer case
after removing the front drive shaft.

Installing new hub plates to disconnect the front axle shafts from the the hubs
seems like a logical thing to do also. (Or installing locking front hubs)
Spinning a 6.72 double reduction differential in reverse (when the drive shaft
is removed) has to chew up several horse power.

But hey, gas is $1.259 today at the local station, I think it is time to fill up
the 2-50 plus gallons tanks on my M51. (:->)
