Temp gauge problem

Hey all:

I just picked up my new (and it is like new) deuce on Friday and I have one
minor problem:

The temp gauge pins to the top of the scale as soon as you turn on the accy
switch.

I have replaced the gauge with a known (Assumed) good one and it gives the
same result.

I changed the temp sender with a another good (assumed ) good one and the
problem is the same.

The question is: what is the most likely cause? My assumption is the sender
or the line in the harness is grounding out. (Next time I work on it, I am
going to temporarily run a new wire and see if it has any dirrerent results)

Any opinions.
