Thanks to all the advices from the listers as to how to get the grease out
of the gearbox of my MUTT. I ran the vehicle, opened the drain valve,
removed the grease blocking drain hole but alas! No oil came out!! It
breaks my heart to admit it....there was NO oil in the gearbox but only a
little grease!! I do not want to discuss about this any more but can only
thank my stars for not destroying the gearbox. So much for the local
mechanics.
I used kerosine and detergent to flush. All the grease(or whatever little
of it was in there) came out. Now the gearbox is filled with gear oil. The
gearshifting is much smoother and me happier.
But there were two tiny steel balls -each with a diameter of 0.75 cm- in
the grease that came out of the gearbox. They do not show any damage that
they would have suffered if they had gone in between the gear wheel teeth.
Where could they have come from?
