Interesting point. I received nothing but help on the subject. I own
3 vehicles: 1 = WW2 American, 1 = Vietnam era American and 1 = 1950's
English. So theoretically I should be on 3 different lists.

Although I see the intent in Jim's reasoning, I think you have
hit the nail on the head. I note that you have sent this email to both
Mil-Veh and MV List. I subscribe to both, so ended up with 2 copies.
If I owned a jeep then theoretically I would receive 4 copies as I
would also be on the jeep list and the WW2 list as this email is
relevant to all 4.......................

This is hard to guage, but I must agree with you as I can remember the
MVPA taking a lot of flak not so long ago through this list.

More so than you may think. At Beltring last year I met people who I
only know of from this list and would never have heard of them any other
way. Guess what? A lot of them do not own armour and their interests
lie in other stuff eg Tom Woodburn, he owns a jeep not an AFV. Yet who
did he end up hanging out with at Beltring? A bunch of internationals
with a Polsten Blitz, a Kettenkrad and a Multibank Sherman...........
The common tie is the list, because we all collect different vehicles.

That may go down in list history, it may not, time will tell.

I tend to agree.

Richard started his MV List to act as an alternative to Arthur's and to
also provide an alternative to those that find Arthur's too US politic
and "M" series dominated. In reality most who are on it are also
subscribed to Arthur's list. There is a large exception to that
statement however as there are quite a few people who due to Arthur's
technical problems have been unable to successfully subscribe for months
now and due to Arthurs unavailability, have not been able to get
subscribed from the San Fransisco end, thus Richard has proved a life
line.

I for one do not want to receive quadraphonic messages so I will limit
things to stereo with just the 2 major lists (and Ferret Heaven list
which doesn't contain any duplications of the other 2).
No criticism of Jim,
just don't want to wade through 150 messages per day. There is
doubtless a place for Jim's list and it will thrive. But then, if I
remember correctly, "The Great Jerrycan Thread" was started by a jeep
owner and yet went as far as Andreas a Kettenkrad owner with his
genuine German "Stahlkannister".
None of us would have been any the wiser or so entertained if this had
all occured on the jeep list.

If I need vehicle specific info, well, normally I email either to the
2 lists and to specific owners of that type of vehicle. But never to
just the owners. The quality of the info I received from non - M8
Greyhound owners was too valuable to miss out on. eg Tim with the
White Scout Car, different vehicle but same engine as mine and helpfull
advice from "M" series owners.
For Ferret problems, I often get the best advice from Richard, but he
owns a Stalwart (amphib truck) not a Ferret, so it goes on.

Regards
Doug
