Viruses and virus checkers

Shortly after I posted the electronic ignition blurb I received 2
attachments from the MV list.Niether were a threat but they were addressed
to me personally thru the list. This program must be directed at the list
probably from an outsider.I can see this being an increasing problem in the
future.
The biggest problem with virus checkers is that they can only detect viruses
that follow a certain pattern or have been around for awhile. It's just
common sense. The anti-virus doesn't happen until the virus is written
first. The new viruses coming are going to be a disaster because they can
bypass any checker and are hidden in pix or split in 2 or 3 attachments and
then reassemble once it's all there.Common sense will go a lot farther than
any checker and if one does get thru warnings are the best deterents.
Also virus checkers can't see worms.
I guess the best backup is a seperate computer just for the web and email.
