Dear Listers,

I had a quick browse through my book on the M38A1 and the earliest hood
number I can see is 20940086 , the next is 20946525, then 20950274. Some
photos commence with "201", but are then followed by a further 6 numbers so I
guess that when the US Army Registration (hood number) reached 20999999, the
odograph clicked round to 201000000. My understanding is that the first "20"
signified a 1/4-ton truck and remained constant.
There are photos of later M38A1s bearing the new(er) style of registration
beginning wth "2A" followed by four numbers. There is even a shot of an M38A1
beginning "2B" which would place it around the final batch issued before the
M151 started delivery.
The USMC M38A1s have different series of numbers entirely.

Anyone else able to add further to this?

Kind regards.........

ken
