Exactly. Do they still make Playdoh?
I went from 8.0:1 to 9.2:1, so I go for the higher octane, to be safe. I
have heard you can use pump gas (premium) up to 9.5:1, but I don't trust
this fuel today....

Yeah, you have to hassle with the valve seats and stem length, and worrying
about the top of the piston coming up over the top of the deck in some
instances...with V8's you have to refit the intake manifold sometimes...

That's true, dual overhead cams, 4 valves per cylinder, TPI, computer
controlled fuel and spark, among better flow design in a lighter weight and
aerodynamic vehicle. I was thinking of the basic 4 banger that could be a
replacement, like from a newer Jeep.

These older vehicles are not really good daily drivers, unless you can
commute on roads of 45mph or less.
