Correct. I forgot to mention PM motors in my recent post. However, PM motors are
fairly recent in vehicles, since decent permanent magnets were really post WW II

AC motors are different. There are two basic types: Capacitor start and
capacitor run. The cap start ones only have the cap in circuit until the
centrifugal switch kicks out, the cap run has the cap connected all the time.
Swapping the windings will reverse the direction of operation.
