    Conscientious objectors were originally for the people that had moral
problems about the taking of life. That would be known at the time of
enlistment or drafting. Maybe, very occasionally, after a life-changing
event like conversion to a new religion. I'd be willing to bet that the
only thing these people object to is putting their butts on the line and the
only thing that is sacred to them is their own hide..
    If they wanted to cut their chances of going to war even more, they
should have joined the National Guard. It worked for me. : )
