The injection lines should not leak, unless the motor is turning, and the
line is loose....

As far as the hard start...will it start at all without ether?
If the in tank pump runs....I suspect that one of the 3 following situations
exists:

1: one of the three fuel filters is stopped up.
2: there is a leak in the supply line between the INSIDE of the fuel tank,
and the injection pump....this allows the fuel system to drain of fuel...then
you are cranking until it purges itself of air. You can check this by
turning the master switch on and letting it run for a couple of minutes (use
a watch to time) before turning motor over. If it starts and runs right off,
this is the prob.
3: The supply pump on the side of the injection pump has failed....this is
not an uncommon occurrence. Typical of this is truck won't start at all
without ether.

The bad news of situation three is, to remove this little pump on a deuce,
you must either pull the injection pump (poor choice), or loosen motor mounts
and jack engine up (better choice). There is not enough clearence between
the supply pump and the steering gearbox to remove it otherwise.

Hope this helps,
David
