Actually Linux is perfect for a minimal system like an old 486 computer or
an old Mac you have saved from being 'tossed'. A brand new Linux
distribution will install and run on old slow systems just fine. No
backwards compatibility problems with Linux. Email does not require high
speed and having a separate email-computer will free up the other computer
for family use while you peruse MV List. Total cost could = zero with a
bit of luck.
