The power steering pump on an LDS bolts where the timing cover is on a LDT.
I recognize you said this in an LDT, but the LDT and LDS share the same block
(and heads, and crank, etc).....where is the sump on the oil pan? On a LDT
the deep sump is in the front, on a LDS the deep sump is to the rear
(flywheel end) of the engine. This sump position will determine if the
engine will fit into a deuce or a five ton. It is possible the engine got
mistagged during rebuild.
The government had a program to derate LDS engines and install in deuces, but
I have never heard of the reverse. Of course, the derating program involved
(among many other things) reversing the oil pan (and dipstick), and removing
the power steering pump.
Hope this is of some help,
David
