stripping parts

I am in the process of stripping alot of little parts (around a grocery
store hand basket full).
Other than trying to find a chem dip service, [no luck on that yet].
Any suggestion for a home-use solution (chemicals)? There is no chrome or
other "sensative" items, just steel with lots of old paint and crud.
