I do not know how far back deuces go, but the Quartermast Standard Fleet of the late 1920's included various size 6x6 cargo trucks from 3 to twelve ton, the biggest being an impressive machine even by today's standards.
The truck in question on eBay is a GMC G-749, quiet an advanced vehicle for its day (early 1950's), but often grossly abused (and not as forgiving as the Reo G-742) and missunderstood.
