German vs. American halftrack

There was a thread recently at the OnWar site in regard's to the German
halftrack's larger track area (3/4 track vs. 1/2 track) and the lack of
driven front wheel's. Unfortunately no one was interested in the question.
The question was whether or not the American's with less track on the ground
but with powered front wheel's would be at an advantage or disadvantage
versus their German counterpart's in regard's to mobility (getting stuck in
the mud).
And on a similiar note how did German halftrack's steer in heavy mud,
presuming their front tire's weren't getting a good bite, with the track's
driving straight ahead would the vehicle just go forward and have trouble
turning?
.
Anyone have any info?
