M-35 engine power

Thanks by the way for the pointers to the right lubes. Truck's going to
get all changed Monday.

I love my M-35, but I'd like to get a little more oomph from the engine.
It seems like a turbochaged engine with 478 cu. in. would have a little
more than 140 hp and 300 ft-lbs of torque. The engine was rebuilt in 93
at Tooele, and has a sticker on the injector pump saying the "fuel
wiscosity sensor has been bypassed to prevent engine oil dilution, use
only diesel fuel"

Ryder box trucks and 18 wheelers which I know to have 6 cylinder diesels
just fly past me!

The issue is hills. On the highway, I find myself avoiding entrance
ramps where I have to climb a hill to get on. I'll be lucky to be doing
35 mph in 4th gear. On the flat road, the gas pedal is near the floor at
55 MPH.

I do have a modern aluminum shelter mounted in the bed, and I suppose it
weighs a ton, but I would not think this should make too much difference
on a 6 ton truck.

I get about 7.7 MPG (not a complaint at all, just another fact)

Is all this normal?
Anything to do to get better performance?

Noise -anyone ever put a muffler on the exhaust stack? did it help?

all coments welcome!
