One thing to remember with deuces of any vintage is that if one rear wheel
gets
a little 'frisky' during a hard stop and locks up, you most likely will go
into a skid.
The reason being that with the rears connected and in 8WD all the time, if
one wheel
locks, some corresponding action pretty much has to occur on the other axle.

On a hard stop, I have found that locking the rears is actually preferable
to almost
locking the rears due to the possibility of only one brake getting 'frisky'
