Hi Jim,

Just got done replacing a pump. Didn't pull the radiator - instead I
bumped the starter and had someone else watch for the timing marks to come
around on the damper. Usually you can get the marks to the 12:00 position
on the damper by bumping. It's best to stop there because it will usually
go past the needle if you bump it again. I then put a crescent wrench (I
use a 18" one) on the back side of the air compressor pulley seeing it has
a shoulder there that the wrench will fit on. Then slip a short piece of
pipe over the handle of the wrench, and squeeze together the air compressor
belt so you make it real tight. You can then finish pulling the engine
around to the timing mark. But anytime I have to remove the pump, step 1
is always to remove the fender. It makes it a lot easier to get at
everything.

Good luck in your project!

Subject: [MV] Manually rotating crankshaft on deuce? Tricks?

Is there some trick way to rotate the crankshaft on a deuce? I'm
trying to reinstall a hydraulic head on the injection pump and need to
line up timing marks, etc. Tried poking the starter and it never gets
close enough. The big nut on the front of the crankshaft is almost
totally blocked by the radiator mounting stuff. There must be a special
wrench for getting in there?
Turning the fan doesn't do it. I can back out the injectors, I
suppose. That would take away the compression. Tips? Jim
