Re: [MV] a question about military suburban

The original agreements with our Saudi hosts were that the 'secret bases'
maintained over there were to be fully stocked by them and ready for
immediate occupancy by our forces when required. Suburbans are the vehicle
of choice over there and a significant percentage of each years Suburban
production is destined for the mid east. What you saw were primarily
civilian 'Burbs modified and painted as required to fulfill Air Base needs,
something Uncle Sam should do more of.
Even more annoying is that a very large percentage of used Suburbans on
the east coast are bought up by brokers and shipped to Saudi Arabia where
they are used to transport large numbers of pilgrims in air conditioned
comfort to Makkah during Hajj each year. Which is why the darn things have
such a high resale value and the ones that are left behind are usually worth
less than the asking price.
