In my line of work this subject carries as much fire as religion and
politics. The post stating how the fuel is tested is pretty much
correct but to carry it further when the fuel is of a higher octane it
will also burn for a longer period of time and thus pushing the piston
for more of the stroke time. Like pushing a car to start it with
another, if you push 20 feet and stop it will more than likely roll more
than if you give it a ten foot push.. All other forces being equal.
