About 3 or 4 yrs ago, my friend and I met a nice young kid a Weare NH who
had a M37. He saved his money by working with his father doing
landscaping. We welcomed him to our camp site chats on military vehicles.
He had just got it and was trying to get it running with his dad. The
next year I arrive at the show and here he comes. Because he was only 15,
his father brought his yellow M37 on his flatbed so he could ride around
the field and the trails with his truck. I remember looking it over and we
chatted about what he wanted to do with it. He eventually mentioned that
the starter was giving him problems. Well I left him at the end of the
weekend, before I left I told him that I had a 12v starter in my parts
truck. I would check it for him to see if it would work. If it did, he
could have it for 50 bucks!
The next year, he drove the truck in with a fresh coat of OD paint and
a new top. Starting every time, I remember him eventually having a flat
tire on the field with no spare. Again members of the clubs were helping
out the M37.
Year later, back again, limping it in with a busted axle shaft
sustained while pulling a friends pick up out of the woods before the show.
All weekend long he and the rest of us look the flea market hard for a axle
shaft. I know I got a late start in the MV community, 22 yrs old. But I
do remember going to see george at VCS with my dad at the age of 10. Oh the
trucks I still want!!
