Armor thickness! On Mail Call last night they did a piece on the M-18
Hellcat. It is a tank destroyer, not a tank. The armor, according to "R
Lee" is just 5/8" thick where a Sherman's armor is 2 1/2" thick in
places. The other difference is speed. The M-18 was fast. They said it
would do 60mph. They went to an armor museum and had a race with a Sherman
and the M-18 ran off and left it in the dust.

They are all very expensive and require a lot of maintenance, as anyone
with a tracked vehicle will tell you.
