mpg and other issues

it seems to me that removing one rear axle, probably the left rear one,
is the best solution. if you disconnect the inter connect shaft
everything is still turning, so the drag, such as it is, will still be
there. the real load is the tire load since you will never have the
tires absolutely matched. the real trick would be to have one hub
assembly that is air operated and would operate something much like the
transfer case clutch.
