I take exception to those who are petty enough to get on this forum to bash
those who are brave enough to leave friends and family for what they believe
in. Those people are courageous- there is no other word for it.

Courage in any form, even if it lies in the heart and spirit of your enemy,
should be admired. We need more people in the world like that- no
question... And if you're that kind of person, more power to you. But
think CAREFULLY about what you are saying when you flippantly consign a
brave, conscientious, moral person to the ranks of "human target."

Charles Lindberg resigned his commission as a Lieutenant Colonel from the
Army Air Corps prior to WWII because he disagreed with the international
policies which our Government touted in the years leading up to WWII. He
was right; in the aftermath of WWII the Japanese political machine referred
often to pre war American Policy as BIG reasons that they changed their
focus from China to the Pacific and began the war. Lindberg's contention
was that we were pushing the Japanese toward belligerent acts, and that the
China problem was in many ways created by the domination of their politics
by Western countries for over a century and would be best resolved if we let
them work it out.

Despite his views, after war broke out, he immediately offered his services
to the War Department. Considering that his specialty was long range flight
and all the intricasies surrounding it, you would think that he would be a
necessary part of the team. It was almost not to be.

Roosevelt personally interfered with his application for a new commission
and he never received one. He was very bitter about the public shellacking
he had taken by the isolationists before WWII, and Lindberg was at the top
of his list.

Nevertheless, Lindberg found his way as a civilian advisor to the South
Pacific, where he was personally responsible for more than DOUBLING the
range of our long range interceptors there, the P38 Lightnings. Of course,
this was almost 2 years after these operations had started.

We are very good at persecuting minorities in this country, so let's not be
too quick to judge the voices of caution and reason, and even those who
vehemently oppose our points of view. There might be some truth to them,
and in the midst of saber rattling, MOAB dropping, and JP4 fumes, some of
these options may be better in the long term.

Don't know if you saw the news today, but it looks like Tony Blair is going
to take a bath as PM. If he does, we are left with very few options in
regards to the UN, which means we are standing pretty much alone against the
UN Security Council. We might be standing alone as Charles Lindberg was
standing near the outbreak of WWII, and our options limited not in this
conflict, but the MUCH MORE serious ones which will surely follow. I have
had to think hard about it, and I know that S Hussein is as bad a dude as
needs to be removed- but I think we need to listen to the international
community more on this one.
