I remember it well, it was the 15th of April 1986 and we were crossing
Moammar Quadaffi's "Line of Death" in Libya. The French were afraid that
they would have Arab terrorist attacks if they gave us permission to
overfly. So instead, we (the USAF F-111's) flew from England (they were not
afraid) around France and Spain, through the Strait of Gibraltar into the
Mediterranean and across the "Line of Death".
Quadaffi has been a lot quieter since then.
