WW2 and MVs

Taking the idea a little farther.

This last Feb/Mar we held an WW2 event at Camp Gruber, OK (D-Day scenario).
Even with the ice, snow and cold, we had over 600 folks, US, British, &
German (plus civilians and partisans) show.
One of the nice things that also came were dozen jeeps, trucks, weasel, WCs,
a Stuart Tank, T16, several German 223 halftracks, countless BMW MC combos
and such. Throw in arty pieces and what nots, and it was a pretty good
showing for the first time this event was national.

The Friday will be a living history day, with folks really working towards
recreating England prior to invasion and the Germans working and living in
the two combat towns that are there (oh, did I mention that this is around
30+ buildings, almost all two or more stories?) Saturday is a battle from
landing to the towns.

One of the big differences with this event is the combination of troops and
vehicles. I would be interested in how many folks would like to come out
with their WW2 period toys (yup, this is not a farby event) and get to play
with their MVs like they were made to be used. We can provide troops to ride
in Deuces, folks to walk ground on your jeep, guard your Stuart, etc.
speaking of that, Got Tank? Wanna shot at something with it? (blanks only,
please). We can help on getting the proper WW2 attire if missing.

Anyway, I am the event coordinator this year. It will be held in the spring
of 2003. We will be assisting in gas money, provide barracks to stay, etc.
So, if you are interested in doing something a little difference with that
Diamond T, Studebaker, Dodge or what ever else, please contact me offline.
Just think of the pictures, videos and memories of something like this.

Regards,
Bill Chambers

Tim, I'm sure that the reenactment group would work with interested parties
with loaner gear to get them out, or at least try to accommodate those that
what to try. I know that there are stitchers in all the hobbies but the
main thing is to have fun. I laughed at our MV meeting last night about a
convoy trip last month. Usually there is a bone of contention about speed
as far as the newer vs older and the mentioned that one guy's WWII Command
car really flew. He got a head start and was hard to catch. Best we work
together. Thanks Howard at TSG-I.O.N. 82nd AB> [Original Message]
