Churchville and the Convoy

I got back from Churchville last night and I've just managed to finish
wading through the email and unloading the truck and trailer... One
load of laundry is finished...

I had a great time. Really enjoyed meeting with those of you who came
by when I was around and I'm sorry that I missed those of you who came
by when I was out...

I purchased a few parts for my M37, got quite a few for the M38 I am
starting to work on, and took a bunch of photos that I will put on my
website in a couple of days.

I sold about a third of the takeoff M37 parts that I had hauled up from
NC, enough to almost pay for the stuff that I purchased. What I didn't
sell will likely go on Ebay pretty soon...

Those of us who convoyed back to the Carolinas made it back safely. My
engine in the Cummins powered M37 never went over 215F and ran most of
the time around 190F even though the electric fan died when we entered
the field on Thursday (repair to commence this afternoon), and I notice
from his email to the list that Joe Trapp reported that he blew the
transmission in his M35 (the one with the big screen tv in the back and
the Jeep in tow) after we parted company in Richmond, VA (he to go on
down I95 towards Florence, SC, the rest of us to head down I85 toward
Durham, NC)

For those who are interested in numbers: I put 735 miles on the M37
with the Cummins 4BT under the hood, burned 42.44 gallons of diesel,
averaged 17.32MPG (with the M101A1 in tow), and used a quart of gear oil
to top off the transmission and transfer case...

Thanks to all involved with the show from planning on down to attending,
I had a great time.

For those who participated in the Convoy (planing, participating,
sponsoring, or just cheering the rest of us on), THANKS!! It was a lot
of fun. Those of you who participated in the convoy who came down from
north of the rally site in the Red and Blue Serials will never know just
how impressive you looked when you turned the corner and came down the
hill to the parking lot at the Golden Coral to join with those of us
from south of the rally site in the Yellow Serial who had arrived just a
short while earlier...

I'm already making plans for next year,
C. Garbee
2003 East Coast Convoy Yellow Serial Commander
