You can get a decent used radio for that if ya look hard (some hams give
radios out to new licences ask KC0NZN )
ARES and RACES use 2meters. (storm spotters and emergency use) HELP your
community and be informed better than the LATE TV reports !
I am a ham and use 6m on my RT 524 as do many in our club. it helps with
convoys (safer and better logistics ), and demonstrating your MV with a
radio gives a better look and feel of the REAL thing for KIDS big and small
