Kirk, there must be a vent. Without it you will never achieve a seal. The
vents come in 2 locations. First, it could be on the axle housing itself. Will be
on top of tube just off from center section. Second location possibility is
on the center section itself. There is a diamond shaped inspection cover on the
side of the input shaft. If its not in either location, here is a
possibility. You could have an older truck/ axle housing that originally had the vent
in that inspection cover. During maintenance or repairs, the entire center
section could have been swapped out and a newer one installed that didn't have
the vent there. So its very possible to not have a vent. I assure you that the
only way to make it seal without a vent is to not drive it.
